ODW #14: EU/TU—NÓS/ELES14 – 18 October 2024
Otherness can be defined as the concept of the ‘other’ or ‘difference’, and is related to the way we perceive and relate to what is different, be it a person, a group or a culture. Thinking about otherness means trying to understand how individuals or groups construct and deal with cultural, social and identity differences. This workshop invites participants to reflect on the notions of individuality and collectivity based on the notion of alterity. Using a collaborative and dynamic methodology that makes use of random combinations as a strategy for confrontation and creation, the workshop aims to explore the friction between text and image. Based on the motto ‘I/YOU/THEM’, the aim is to investigate the tension between identity and representation and to study how the use of images and texts reinforces or questions identity divisions, engaging in dialogue with issues of power, exclusion and oppression.
